Migrate from Obsidian

Nota works with local markdown files on your computer the same way Obsidian does. You can select File → Open... from the menu or drag and drop your folder onto Nota and you are ready to go.

After you've opened your notes, you may want to know some of the subtle differences between the two apps so you can feel at home with Nota:

• Nota doesn't have a default for where to put your new notes. Obsidian puts them in the root folder. If you want to change that, go to Preferences → Workspace → Inbox folder and select "root".
• Obsidian calls opened folders "vaults", we call them "workspaces".
• Not all commands have the same shortcuts. You can configure that by going to Preferences → Shortcuts.
• Nota and Obsidian have a lot of commands that overlap. Some of the command names don't match. However, if you type the name of an Obsidian command in our Go → Command Palette... ⇧⌘p, it will show you our equivalent.
• Nota uses spaces for indentation, Obsidian uses tabs. You can change that from the Preferences → Workspace → Indent with option.
• Nota uses a 2-column file manager — folders on the left and files on the right.
